I'm a big supporter of hobby shops and I always order whatever parts and kits I can. I want to be able to continue to zip down to the shop to pick up basic supplies and chat about the hobby. It also allows me to hold items for a short period of time until the budget allows me to pick them up. I don't have a huge budget, so I'm sure I'm not anybody's best customer. But I always try to find something to buy each time I stop at one.

Greg Gordon, the owner of the Collinsville Hobby shop, is responsible for getting me back into the hobby in addition to modeling the New Haven Railroad. He has since he has closed, but I'm fortunate to have a good number of shops in my general area, most of which specialize in model railroading.

Steve's niche is in purchasing collections so there is always something different and hard-to-find. This includes old magazines and used books. He also stocks Railway Prototype Cyclopedias and has a genuine NE-5 hack outside his store.
